R&D intensity, that is R&D expenditure as a percentage of GDP, is a central indicator depicting the importance a country/a region attributes to such activities. According to the 2019 data, R&D intensity on a national level reached 1.51% of GDP. Four regions: Attiki (1.89%), Kriti (1.88%), Ipeiros
(1.70%) and Dytiki Ellada (1.60%) outperform the country average.
